History

The Sandwiches brand was founded by Bryce Mason, Wade Lipsham, Ryan Salt and Stuart Dun way back in November 2000.

The motivation behind this very “quirky” choice of brand names, was a tongue-and-check alternative to what was at the time a very serious and over analysed dance music industry. They wanted a fun word that had little or no relevance to the market, and therefore, almost by reverse psychology, perk a greater level of interest to a wider demographic. The word Sandwiches also represents the “multi-flavoured” entertainment philosophy of the company, their pride in our unique Kiwi culture and talent, and of course their love of cutting-edge music. At the end of the day, Sandwiches was about having fun.

Fresh from his return working abroad with some of the most influential names and venues in the world club industry, Bryce and the original Sandwiches team set about creating the most unique Dance Music series in the country. Promoting only the finest international and local talent from Dance Bands to DJs, including the debut performance from the Wellington group, Rhombus, and special guest performances from some of the world’s top club DJs, including Craig Richards (Fabric London), Lucien Foort (Global Underground), and Phil Smart (Australian DJ of the year) along side the local talent.

After a string of successful events under the Sandwiches brand, and the monthly event Monkey Business, Bryce and Wade joined forces with former Paradiso Bar General Manager Jonnie Halstead. Together the three, along with the design talents of Michael and Daniel Melville of John Mills Architects, created a 1st class venue to act as a permanent staging point for the future of the brand.

Following 6 months of business planning, and 6 months of design and construction, the club opened in 2003. Sandwiches had a permanent home and a growing reputation as one the countries leading promotional vehicles in entertainment and hospitality.

Fast forward to 2009, the club prepares to celebrate its 6th birthday, and continues to grow from strength to strength. Over the past 5 and a bit years Sandwiches has cemented its reputation as the premier music and entertainment venue in the country, with the awards and trophies on the shelf to show for it. But the proof of the pudding isn't in awards, it's in the consistently high quality of parties, shows, concerts, and events with sold out crowds week in and week out. The club of choice in New Zealand for many of the world's top DJ's, and a breeding ground for local live acts and talented musicians, barely a Friday or Saturday night goes past without a must see artist in the building. The list is far too long to mention.

Not content to rest on their achievements, the team at Sandwiches continually strive to raise the bar and push forward. Original founding member Stuart has recently returned from an extended number of years in London's club scene and rejoined Wade and Bryce who, along with the rest of the Sandwiches team, have big plans for the future...

As the entertainment and hospitality scene in Wellington continues to change and evolve, rest assured that Sandwiches will be somewhere out in front - redefining what is possible, and having a bloody good time doing it.
